About John S. Charlton School
The John S. Charlton School is designed for students with special needs throughout Kent County, Delaware. The School serves students, 2 to 21 years of age, with a focus on applied academics and functional life skills via modification of the Common Core Curriculum, with the goal to increase and enhance students’ levels of independence. All students at the John S. Charlton School receive special education services. John S. Charlton is the Kent County Center for the Delaware Autism Program (DAP). Students are served at the John S. Charlton Program across a variety of settings ranging from full inclusion to self-contained at on-campus and off-campus/satellite locations within the Caesar Rodney School District and Delaware State University Downtown Dover campus. Students at the John S. Charlton School participate in community-based instruction, work-based learning and vocational exploration, and Special Olympics.
About the Kent Elementary Intensive Learning Center
The Kent County Elementary Intensive Learning Center (KEILC) is a countywide special education program for students in grades Kindergarten through 5. Students at KEILC receive additional emotional, social, and behavioral supports needed to become successful students both at the ILC as well as to transition to their home schools.
About Project SEARCH at DelDOT
Project SEARCH is a one-year internship program for students with disabilities who are in their exit year of public education. The program is targeted for students whose goal is competitive employment in the community. Project SEARCH at DelDOT is a collaboration among several agencies, including the John S. Charlton School, DelDOT, DVR, Autism DE, Community Integrated Services (CIS), and POW&R.
